It’s been a while….

It’s been a while since we broke out the ‘ol blog, and when we did we found it pretty broken, so we’ve moved everything over to WordPress for a fresh start!

We have lots of projects to catch you up on since we last blogged (in 2011???!!!)!  Since then we’ve actually built that deck we were thinking about, had a fence installed, finished the downstairs tiki room, added a kitchen island with salvaged walnut from other Northcrest homes, done a bit of landscaping here and there, finished and installed our mailbox project, bought lots of new (old) furniture, and had a baby….who is now a toddler!

Yes, in October of 2012 we welcomed our biggest DIY project yet, Elem Harper!  We survived (and loved) every second of her days as a baby and as she becomes a full-fledge toddler she is ready to buckle (“bubble” as she would say) on her very own tool belt and give us a hand with some projects!

We’re currently working on building our raised garden bed in the side yard.  It’s the sunniest spot in our yard, and after having a fence installed a few weeks ago, it’s the perfect spot for our garden.  E adores tomatoes so we’ll be planting several varieties of those, as well as peppers, squash, pickling cucumbers and watermelon!  Jeff framed up the raised bed in one afternoon, then loaded in soil the next.  We’ll get our last load of soil (mixed with mushroom compost) for the final layer today and start planting our garden!  Jeff has plans to add cedar shingles to the outside boxes to make them more interesting and coordinate with another future plan…our garden shed/basement vestibule.  We’re looking at different vintage Sunset plans and finalizing our ideas for that project now.

We’ll have lots of updates coming your way soon, including lots of new pictures to update you on how things are looking.  Thanks to Grandparent’s and their love of pictures of their grandchildren, we’re now shooting with a Nikon D3200 (a HUGE upgrade for us!).  You’ll also see lot of iPhone photos since we always have those with us!
